Spotlight Series: Inspiring Journeys of Women Entrepreneurs - Part 2

Updated: Mar 27

During Women’s History month, Alignment Advising is featuring the stories of several inspirational women and how they landed in their journey to entrepreneurship. This is part two in a three-part series. If you missed part one, you’ll want to catch up on Elizabeth’s trailing blazing story here.

And now, without further ado I like to introduce our next women business owner - Lisa Schoenthal, Founder of Breath of Freedom Experiences. Lisa is a transformation guide providing unique experiences that give clients the space and place to expand their awareness while opening up the opportunity to help them better connect with who they truly are – and also learning from other women on a similar journey.

Michelle: Share with us briefly about your company Breath of Freedom.

Lisa: Breath of Freedom Experiences is the driving force behind my work as an author, speaker, and host of Sip Tea with Me podcast—a transformational brand built on the belief that growth requires fluid movement and community. I curate powerful environments where women stop performing, reclaim their authenticity, and make aligned decisions that shift the trajectory of their lives—expanding their impact and influence far beyond the experience.

Michelle: What got you to start Breath of Freedom? How has it evolved? How did you use prior skills to launch it into your current role?

Lisa: Breath of Freedom was born in a season of reinvention. After performing in the top 3% of the special events industry, I took a three-month trip around the world and made a promise to myself: close doors, get honest, and decide what was next. That journey led me to write The Men We Meet, but more importantly, it revealed that the most meaningful transformation in my life came from stepping into new environments and seeing myself—and others—more clearly through travel.

A few years later, at 47, I reinvented myself again and became a flight attendant. What I thought was a bold career pivot became one of my greatest teachers. Through global travel and thousands of conversations at 35,000 feet, I witnessed how exposure expands empathy, sharpens self-awareness, and reveals the unique strengths each of us brings to the world.

Breath of Freedom began with intimate yoga classes and workshops and evolved into retreats, speaking, and my podcast Sip Tea with Me. My corporate sales background wasn’t left behind—it became the backbone. I now use those skills to curate immersive experiences, build powerful partnerships, fill rooms with intention, and create emotional connection that moves women from reflection into real transformation.

Michelle: What makes you different or sets you apart from other health, travel, or wellness coaches?

Lisa: What sets me apart is that I don’t just offer coaching—I design immersive environments that create real-time transformation. Growth accelerates when women change their environment, expand their perspective, and embody the shift rather than just talk about it.

With a background in corporate strategy and event design, I build experiences with intention and flow—while weaving in joy, pleasure, and play. I’ve learned that expansion doesn’t have to be heavy; when women feel safe and fully alive, transformation moves with more ease and leaves a lasting impact.

Michelle: Is there one thing  you wish other entrepreneurs or business owners had shared with you prior to starting your business? How would that have helped?

Lisa: I wish someone had told me that your business will evolve as you do—and that reinvention isn’t a sign you got it wrong, it’s a sign you’re growing. Early on, I thought I had to commit to one lane and build something that looked impressive. I later realized alignment matters more than optics.

I also wish I had understood sooner that passion needs infrastructure. Thinking like a CEO means building systems, support, and clarity at the same pace as your vision. If I had trusted my internal compass and structured my growth more intentionally, I would have pivoted faster, conserved energy, and expanded with more ease.

Michelle: What words of wisdom do you have for other entrepreneurs, self-employed, or freelancers?

Lisa: Reinvention is not failure—it’s evolution.

You are allowed to pivot. You are allowed to outgrow old definitions of success. You are allowed to choose again at any age.

Don’t build a business that looks impressive but feels heavy. Build one that aligns with who you’re becoming—one that supports your life, expands your energy, and makes room for joy.

Michelle: Tell us about who your ideal client is or has been. Give a quick example or name their problem you help solve.

Lisa: My ideal client is a woman who is wildly successful on paper—but quietly disconnected underneath.

She’s accomplished, capable, and the one everyone relies on, yet she’s exhausted from performing. She craves authentic connection, meaningful friendships, adventure, and a life that feels fully alive again. She’s not broken—she’s ready for expansion.

I guide her from isolation to sisterhood, from confusion to clarity, and from over-performing to sovereign self-leadership. When women step into new environments together, they don’t just travel—they transform—and that shift reshapes how they live, love, and lead.

Michelle: What other women business owner has inspired you recently?

Lisa: In the last few years, I’ve intentionally chosen to be mentored and supported by other women in business—and that decision has changed everything. Michelle has been one of those women. She helped me refine my offerings, organize what once felt like a beautiful pile of ideas and experience, and shape it into a business I absolutely love.

I’m constantly inspired by women who lead with both authority and heart—women who prioritize collaboration over competition and create rooms instead of guarding seats. I’ve learned from women who’ve taught me AI, helped me craft my signature talks, guided me in PR strategy, and expanded my visibility. And last November, I experienced the power of aligned partnership firsthand when Leah Barthel of Kindred Gift and I co-hosted our Mexico retreat together. That experience reinforced what I now deeply believe: when strong women align their strengths, the impact multiplies.

The greatest shift for me has been realizing I don’t have to build alone. Surrounding myself with women who think bigger, build boldly, and own their visibility has sharpened my vision and expanded what feels possible. It’s also inspired me to intentionally bring women together so they can experience that same level of support, collaboration, and aligned expansion.

Michelle:  Thank you, Lisa for sharing your wildly fascinating journey.  You can connect with Lisa and learn more about her experiences through these online channels.
